New Venue, New Dates
WOW what a week it has been!
Due to circumstances beyond our control, Jacoby Arts Center in Alton, Illinois suddenly and without warning announced on March 1st that it could no longer host From the Inside Out. Elizabeth and I were forced to seek another venue. Not an easy task on short notice since galleries usually book shows a year or two in advance. I immediately sought help from numerous galleries in the St. Louis/Metro East region.
And...we were very VERY lucky indeed!
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Elizabeth's and my alma mater, generously stepped forward today and allowed us to slot our show into their calendar in place of the annual faculty exhibition at the beginning of the fall semester. We are forever in their debt.
This means our opening date will only change by a day or two. Our closing date will change however. The new venue can only accommodate our show for 5 weeks due to other shows that must fit before semester break.
NEW VENUE: Art and Design West Gallery
NEW DATES: August 18 to September 21, 2014. We are negotiating the date of the opening reception. We will let you know as soon as we know. Gallery hours during the week may vary also.
Fabienne's workshop will go on as planned. And she will be at ADW Gallery SIUE for an artist talk on September 18 to which all workshop participants are invited as well as the public. Time of the talk to be announced.
Also, in the very near future I hope to announce a workshop to be taught at the university textile lab by Rio Wrenn. Stay tuned. Lots of excitement coming.
ADW Gallery and the new Art & Design West addition to the art department at SIUE was dedicated in March of 2013. It is a beautiful space and we can't wait to see our show installed there. We couldn't have asked for a more professional looking space. I'll be posting more pictures soon on the ADW Gallery page.

Fabienne's Illinois Workshop
As you know from the previous post here,
Fabienne Rey is coming to Illinois to teach in conjunction with the exhibit
From the Inside Out that Elizabeth Adams-Marks and Pat Vivod are curating. Here is a brief
description of the workshop and contact information to get the ball rolling.
From the Inside Out - Eco-Prints and Memory Cloth 1
with Fabienne Rey
September 19, 20, 21, 2014 – 10 am to 5
pm each day
During this three-day intensive eco-print/dye
workshop with Fabienne Rey of the Netherlands, participants will be introduced
to ecological, economical and sustainable methods of dyeing and printing
organic fabrics by engaging a variety of plant materials. Held in a private 2.5
acre wooded garden in southwest Illinois just 30 minutes east of St. Louis, MO,
the workshop is an opportunity for novice and experienced fiber artists to
create a collection of fabric samples while learning about hot and cold
bundling; natural-dye and eco-dye methods; and the variables of time, water,
cauldrons, non-toxic metals, mordants, local plants and natural fabrics.
Participants will be treated to a
simple, but delicious lunch each day in the garden, but will provide their own
lodging and transportation to restaurants, art exhibitions, museums, shopping, theaters,
and other attractions along the Mississippi River in the St. Louis metropolitan
area. Fabienne will be giving an artist talk on September 18, 7 pm, at the Jacoby Arts Center ADW Gallery, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, the day
before the workshop begins. We hope participants will plan to attend.
For more information about Fabienne Rey

Artist Update
There is no easy way to express our disappointment, but we must announce that India Flint has withdrawn from the exhibition. India explained there are too many commitments on her horizon. We wish her well and extend congratulations on her new book and the fabulous fashions she has been creating of late.
