Exciting News from SDA

Elizabeth Adams-Marks and I are thrilled to announce we've won a Surface Design Association Small Events Grant for our exhibit From the Inside Out.   The $500 grant is a welcome addition to our fund raising efforts for this show and will help pay for return shipping of art work and other expenses.  Woo hoo!

Thank you SDA for supporting our efforts.  It is greatly appreciated.  This has been a challenging show to organize and we are so happy to have been awarded this money.  Fund raising continues however because among the various expenses we anticipate, we are absolutely determined to create an exhibition catalog to top off the project.

Stay tuned for more news!   And check out our sponsor page!

Rio Wrenn Workshop - SEE UPDATE AT BOTTOM OF POST

The decision is made!  Rio will teach a 2 day workshop at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

From the Inside Out:
Dyeing & Printing with Iron and Tannin
with Rio Wrenn

August 23 & 24, 2014
10 am to 5 pm

The workshop will be held in the textile lab at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Department of Art & Design.

This intensive workshop will explore techniques developed by Rio Wrenn and inspired by the ancient craft of Kalamkari from India. By using natural fibers such as silk and basic elements such as iron and various tannins we will explore the magic of printing and dyeing. This is a natural and ecological method that is quick in its results and has low impact on our environment.

Rio's class will be held in the newly renovated textile lab at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in the art building adjacent to Art and Design West Gallery where the FTIO exhibit will be on display.

No experience is necessary to participate in this workshop except knowledge of basic hand sewing.

Registration for the workshop will be limited to 15 participants on a first-come-first-serve basis. To get on our list to receive registration form, detailed information, pricing and materials list required for workshop, along with links for lodging and local attractions, please email your full name, mailing address, and request to Patricia Vivod at

New Venue, New Dates

WOW what a week it has been!

Due to circumstances beyond our control, Jacoby Arts Center in Alton, Illinois suddenly and without warning announced on March 1st that it could no longer host From the Inside Out. Elizabeth and I were forced to seek another venue. Not an easy task on short notice since galleries usually book shows a year or two in advance.  I immediately sought help from numerous galleries in the St. Louis/Metro East region.

And...we were very VERY lucky indeed!

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Elizabeth's and my alma mater, generously stepped forward today and allowed us to slot our show into their calendar in place of the annual faculty exhibition at the beginning of the fall semester. We are forever in their debt.

This means our opening date will only change by a day or two. Our closing date will change however. The new venue can only accommodate our show for 5 weeks due to other shows that must fit before semester break.

NEW DATES:  August 18 to September 21, 2014. We are negotiating the date of the opening reception. We will let you know as soon as we know. Gallery hours during the week may vary also.

Fabienne's workshop will go on as planned. And she will be at ADW Gallery SIUE for an artist talk on September 18 to which all workshop participants are invited as well as the public. Time of the talk to be announced.

Also, in the very near future I hope to announce a workshop to be taught at the university textile lab by Rio Wrenn. Stay tuned. Lots of excitement coming.

ADW Gallery and the new Art & Design West addition to the art department at SIUE was dedicated in March of 2013. It is a beautiful space and we can't wait to see our show installed there.  We couldn't have asked for a more professional looking space.  I'll be posting more pictures soon on the ADW Gallery page.
